I had originally saw a picture on pinterest and it was not linked to the original post, just the picture. I searched and searched and searched and STILL no idea where it came from.
I decided to take a chance and just make them myself and hope I got the same effect.
What you Need:
Terra Cotta pots(any size you wish)
Acrylic paint- I used primary colors and got the big bottles from walmart for 2.97 each.
White Spray Paint
Spray Sealant
Potting Soil
Flowers of choice
Dowel rods
Gift cards of your choice.
First take your pots and place a little piece of masking tape over the hole on the bottom of the pot. Then take them outside and spray them with white spray paint. This doesn’t have to be perfect. (I forgot to get a picture of this step).
Once they dry you can start paitning. This method is called the pour painting method. You are literally pouring the paint ontop of the pot. One color on top of the other.
The idea is that the paint will spill over the sides in what looks like it is “pouring” off.
Once they have the effect you want, let them dry. This can take up to a day or two if you used a lot of paint. Less is more when doing the pouring method. Once they are dry I also like to flip them over and paint the inside rim a solid color just so its nice and clean.
After they are dried you want to use the spray sealant on them. This is to protect the color and protect the pot from the elements.
BAM! They are done and ready for your flower of choice. I took a Target giftcard and taped it to the wooden dowel and stuck it in the pot.
These were the perfect gift for teachers this year! They loved the pots so much! I even made one for myself!
**LESS IS MORE with the paint. If you use too much when pouring it will take forever to dry! What I did was put down the first color and pick up the pot and kinda tilt it all over, on each side so the paint would stretch a bit. I also did this with the second color. By the time I got to the 3rd color it would literally pour off the sides to give the effect shown in the picture.
** The big bottles of paint made 13- 8′in pots and 1- 10-12″ inch pot. I cant remember the size of the large one I made myself.
** This project is not expensive and you get a neat flower pot for anyone! The most expensive item was the spray sealant for me.

I love this poured look…you never know what you’ll get!
What did you put under the pots while you poured tge paint on them? I recently did this project & when I went to lift the pots off the wood, some paint came off. Also, what did you do about the dried paint peelings & things that were stuck to the rim?
Hi Vanessa!
I put the pots on a flattened cardboard box. Anything that stuck to it, I peeled off and then did touch up paint with just a solid color around the edges. I also used a xacto knife to take off any big puddles of dried paint on the rim.
