For the Locals: Moody Gardens~ #Summer Vacation Spot

by Lori on July 25, 2012

You guys have heard me RAVE about Moody Gardens before in posts.

It is one of our favorite vacation spots! So much so that we finally purchased annual passes this year so we can experience the fun all year long!

Right now is the perfect time to head to Moody Gardens this summer! They have tons of great activities for your family to help keep you cool!

First there is Palm Beach.

PALM BEACH ATTRACTIONS:

Lazy River: A 650-linear-foot Lazy River offers over 60 interactive points at which guests on shore can splash and spray as their friends float by along the Lazy River course.

Wave Pool: A 6,100-square-foot zero entry Wave Pool graduates to a depth of 5 feet to appeal to a variety of ages.

Tower Slides: Two 18-foot enclosed Tower Slides offer a thrilling plunge of refreshment. Please note there is minimun 48″ height requirement.

Splashpad: Automated dump buckets, spray arches and fountains. No water depth.

Aquarium Adventure: Playground, which includes eight-feet-tall climb-on platforms, 25-foot Hydro Storm tower with a 500-gallon water dump bucket and more.

Palm Beach is my kids favorite summertime activity on the island! We have spent many nice summer days at Palm Beach.

Also right now at Palm Beach you can see Bands on the Sands on Friday nights. A new band each Friday night will perform and then a spectacular fireworks show you do not want to miss!

One of my favorite attractions at Moody Gardens right now is Bodies Revealed in the Discovery Pyramid.

The BODIES REVEALED Exhibition will be at Moody Gardens starting February 11 through September 9.

FASCINATING + REAL. BODIES REVEALED is a must-see during its limited engagement on Galveston Island. This striking Exhibition showcases real human bodies, dissected and preserved through a revolutionary process which allows visitors to see themselves in a fascinating way, like never before. BODIES REVEALED will enlighten, empower, fascinate and inspire.

BODIES REVEALED, made possible through the process of Polymer Preservation, is an attempt to remedy that lack of knowledge by presenting to the lay public material that was previously only available to the medical profession: a three-dimensional tour of the human body. The specimens have been dissected to specifically illustrate each body system and function. Male and female reproductive organs are visible in some of the full body specimens.

Countless visitors have remarked that the knowledge gained from the experience has provided them with a new connection to their own bodies. Others claim a new reverence for life and a desire to take a more preventative approach to their health care. To quote writer and philosopher John Conger whose words are displayed in the Exhibition, “Without the body, the wisdom of the larger self cannot be known.”

EXHIBITION FEATURES EIGHT GALLERIES:

  • Muscular Gallery
  • Nervous System
  • Skeletal Gallery
  • Reproductive System
  • Urinary System
  • Respiratory System
  • Digestive System
  • Circulatory System

I enjoyed taking my kids in there to see their eyes wide with wonder and to hear them ask amazing questions and to learn and understand how our bodies work! I am glad we were able to see this exhibit before it leaves Moody Gardens. I really recommend it.

The Rainforest Pyramid is always a fun one to go to. While it is rather warm in the pyramid you have a wonderful opportunity to see some amazing creatures. While were there, the “Corpse Flower” was on display. Unfortunately we missed it blossoming by 2 weeks. My husband said it should be consider fortunate that we missed it as he is not sure he wanted to smell it once it bloomed.

The kids favorite pyramid though is the Aquarium. We have been known to go back to this pyramid more than once throughout our trip to Moody Gardens. I think the kids get their love of ocean life from me. I have always been a huge fan of ocean wild life.

My kids favorite animal is the penguins. C-man is just in love with penguins. This time we decided to take a Penguin Encounter and get up close and personal with a penguin named Marley. Marley is a cute rockhopper penguin and the kids loves seeing and hearing her in action. She has a bit of a singer and could sing to us while her trainer was telling us all about her.

The best part? She did some paintings for us! You heard me, Marley the penguin, painted for us! It was such a fun thing to see and a lasting souvenir that the kids got to bring home with them and they will treasure forever.

Moody Gardens really is an excellent family vacation! If you are looking for somewhere fun to take your family before school starts back up I recommend you hit the island of Galveston and you check out Moody Gardens

*Disclosure: Moody Gardens provided my family with two day passes and family passes to the Penguin Encounter. No monetary compensation was made and all opinions are 100% my own.
