This July, I went on a mission trip to McAllen, Texas. This was my first mission trip ever so I was really nervous but also excited to see what was in store for me.

Our trip began with a long drive. Like 8 or 9 hours. I had no idea McAllen was so far away from Houston and I had no idea how close it is to the Mexico/Texas border.  Even though the car ride was long it was a lot fun with friends.

One of our goals on this trip was to give the kids new backpacks and school supplies to get them ready for a new school year. It was a lot of fun shopping for the supplies and then putting the packs together to give the kids. They loved having new items and being ready for back to school. When we shopped for new supplies, we also bought some new shoes for the kids. Many kids in this community had no shoes or had shoes that were not in great condition.

While there we also put on a Vacation Bible School for the kids. It was a lot of fun and it was a great way to minister to these kids. I made a lot of new friends and it was great to see many of them make a decision to follow Christ. It is something I will never forget.

I loved being apart of this mission trip. It really taught me a lot. I learned how fortunate I am to live where I live and have the things I have. To see so many children with far less was very eye opening for me. I also really loved being apart of the change. Seeing what God wanted done and being apart of that change was very special to me. I plan to attend this mission trip and any others that I may be blessed to be apart of.
