Confidence in Wearing Glasses

by Lori on February 23, 2012

I have worn glasses for 21 years.

Yep. 21 years of having to make sure I had my glasses with me so I could see. You see, I am seriously almost blind. I can barely see 2 feet in front of my face. It is sad really.

When I got my first pair of glasses in 3rd grade you can imagine how much I was made fun of. Coke Bottle Glasses were not that popular. Shoot, they are still not popular and kids can be cruel these days.

It has taken me many years to gain confidence in myself as a person who HAS to wear glasses. I know confidence is more than appearance but if you don’t feel good about yourself on the outside then you can’t be confident in yourself as a person.

One way that has helped me gain confidence is to find a pair of glasses that really work for my face shape and my overall style as a person. My first pair of glasses was anything but attractive. Pink, thick frames and a very odd shaped. My mom loved them. I cursed them every morning when I had to put them on.

Now that I am older I tend to buy my glasses online. There are a ton of great sites out there and one I always check out is Glasses.com I love their prices and free shipping offer but the one thing that really makes them different? You can pick out 5 frames you like and they will ship them to your home for you to try on! No annoying glasses sales rep trying to sell you the most expensive pair of glasses in the store, no worrying that people are looking at you for the type of style you like. It it  awesome and a total plus when you are shopping for frames!

The one thing I have not done yet is buy polarized sunglasses online yet.  I really should since the only time I really wear my contacts outside is when it is sunny out and I know I will need sunglasses. I know as well as the next person that glasses help your eyes more than contacts but I have to wear sunglasses.

Perhaps my next step in my confidence of being a person who wears glasses will be buying those polarized sunglasses.

Hey Lori,

You really spoke volumes to my heart in this…kids are sometimes so cruel.

Today was actually my Eye Dr. Visit day… I’ve been wearing them since High School…

So I totally know what you dealt with. I walked in Senior year with the most hideous pair of glasses, in my opinion…now that I look back at the pictures. I can’t believe I actually wore those things LOL.

Thanks for the heads up on who you buy glasses from as this will totally help me! I hate shopping so buying stuff from home is GREAT for me lol… I’ll definitely be taking a look at those polarized sunglasses! I have sensitivity to the sun, and to have a pair of sunglasses that are specially made for me would be great, seeing as those that clip on your regular glasses are so not attractive most of the time. ;-)

Love this! I too find that I have a new found confidence when I wear glasses. I used to be a 100% contact wearer… but now I wear glasses full time. So much easier to pop on my glasses versus pop in my contacts each morning ;)

So… Confession time. I have ALWAYS wanted glasses… I have even “faked” an eye exam so I could get a pair once. I am lame…. Good to know, if I ever get to the point where I need them, I can get ‘em online!
