Giving Back this Holiday Season with Salvation Army and Sam’s Club~With a Giveaway!

by Lori on December 22, 2010

THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED AND A WINNER HAS BEEN CHOSEN WITH THE PLUG IN “AND THE WINNER IS”. THIS WINNER HAS ALSO BEEN NOTIFIED. THEY HAVE 48 HOURS TO REPLY BACK OR A NEW WINNER WILL BE CHOSEN. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ENTERING!

Christmas is just not about receiving gifts. Its about giving. For me, that is what it is really all about. Giving to those in need.

Salvation Army is one  organization who feels the exact same way. Their volunteers work tirelessly day in and day out to make sure others have a wonderful Christmas.  Salvation Army teamed up with Sam’s Club and Off the Field to do just that. Help make 10 families across 10 selected cities Christmas a little brighter. These families will be receiving $1,000 worth of food and holiday gifts, including clothes, personal items, electronics and toys from Sam’s Club. The wonderful women doing the shopping for these families are NFL players wives who are apart of Off the Field, a organization that is all about empowering and helping others in need.

Here you can see Romonda Jordan, wife of Randy Jordan, Texas A&M University running backs coach and nine-year NFL running back with the Los Angeles Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars.  She’s also a founding member of Off The Field and currently serves as Chairman of the Board helping to shop for these 10 deserving families.

These women took time out of their busy day, to help. To show that they truly care for those who are less fortunate. They took the time to really care about what items they were choosing for their families, to make sure they got the most bang for their buck but also made sure the families received what they need and even some things they wanted. They did not stop there. They wrapped each and every gift and each family will also receive a gift card to purchase food they need.

So as you are out shopping this holiday season and you see those volunteers with the bells and the little red buckets, remember what they are doing and who they are helping. Even if all you have is a nickle please consider giving it. It all adds up and any amount can help make one families Christmas magical.

In the spirit of the holiday season and giving, Sam’s Club is offering up a giveaway for one of my readers! One reader will win a Leap Frog Counting Candles Birthday Cake!

Mandatory Entry: Tell me what you do to help those in need. Not just during the holidays, if you volunteer at a soup kitchen once a month or donate clothing and toys to a woman’s shelter, tell me! I want to know how you help others!

*Make sure you leave a comment for each entry method!

Extra entries:

This giveaway will end Thursday, December 30th at midnight CST. A winner will be chosen with the plug in ” And the winner is..”. Once they are emailed they have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen. This contest is open to U.S. Residents only.

** I was not compensated in anyway for this post. I did not receive the item up for grabs in the giveaway. This post is 100% my opinion and about a organization I stand behind 100%.

Maybe it seems kinda.. weird.. but I am currently working on upping my supply so I can donate breast milk to babies in need. I really believe in giving babies the best start in life and it’s the least I can do when I readily have it available!

We donate to different charities here and there, but mainly we take used clothes and toys to the women’s and children’s center, donate food to the food bank, and generally try to help friends and family who are less fortunate. I also shop a lot at the Salvation Army- not only helps that organization but also helps me save money so we can give more.

We do all kinds of things to help out. We donate food for food boxes, we donate our time in helping create meals for Meals on Wheels and for the local homeless shelter. When I go shopping and see stuff on sale I buy extras and donate it to whoever might need it. I’ve always been a big advocate on giving back to others because at one point, we were in need of help and received more than I could’ve ever imagined. Not only is it my way to pay those organizations back, but I think it’s a great thing to teach my kids.

We donate toys and clothes that my kids have outgrown to the Salvation Army, and donate money to the local soup kitchen.
