Back to Basics

Every now and then we all get off track. We all lose our way. It doesn’t mean we are a quitter by any means. It just means we felt the need for a little detour along the way.

I decided a couple weeks ago to go on a little detour. I literally took a month off from working out and making sure everything I put in my mouth was nutritious and what my body needed to thrive.

My body, my emotional and spiritual well being as spoken to me since then.

They are screaming at me saying ” HOLD UP! We deserve better than this. YOU deserve better than this!”

Who knew my body, my mind and my soul was so smart? 

It is very much time to get back to basics. It is time to revisit my schedule, my routine, my life, and my health to get back into the shape I was a month or two ago.

First things I am going to start with is water intake. This has been a BIG issue for me lately and I have no real explanation on why I have stopped drinking so much water other than I get busy and flat out forget. I have been getting daily headaches as well and I am confident the main culprit behind this is my lack of hydration.

Second thing I need to work on is exercise. This is very important especially since I am set to run a half marathon November 13th! I have slacked big time in my training and I have a feeling I am going to pay for it. My goal is to just finish the race, no set time…just finish. Exercise is hard for me. I hate it.

Next is nutrition. While we do not eat bad every single night, here lately we have kinda thrown caution to the wind and eaten whatever whenever. That has not only hurt our body but also our pocket book. Back to strict planning, less eating out, and doing what we know is  right.

Last is my emotional and spiritual well being.

I will learn to stop and smell the roses more.

I will learn to make time for daily devotionals.

I will learn to make time for my husband, not just a kiss on the cheek at night but more conversations that are about us and life.

I will learn to get go and let God.

I will learn to breath again.

WOW girl that’s deep! Seriously. I hear you and everything that you are saying. Some days I want to rest too. But I have already thrown caution to the wind with exercise, eating and not putting myself at the top of my list. This is how I got into this mess! That is always a reminder for me as to why I need to power on. The best way to keep on track is through friends! Either online or offline I am accountable. I surround myself with people who are working on the same goals. It’s hard. Most of my “inner” circle does not eat healthy or work out. Therefore I need those extra friendships online and at the gym. I have to be around those people to pull their energy and lift me up on days when I just don’t wanna! Also, having something to train for really does help. Good luck getting back on track! I’m totally cheering for you!

LOVE how honest and raw you are in this post! I too have reprioritized my focus the past few weeks/month. Fitness has NOT been number one like it had been the past year… but now I am more focused on what really matters: family & my faith.

I love how you are getting back to basics… doing what you KNOW works – planing, routine, and scheduling.

I am SO proud of you and excited for you to embark upon your first half marathon in a few weeks!! YOu are such an inspiration … more than you know!!
