How to Become a Morning Person

by Lori on April 10, 2014

I am not a morning person.

I am not a night person.

The time of day I thrive on is around 10am-2pm. Before 10am I am not awake enough. After 2pm I am ready to crash and take a nap. I am in bed by 10 at night and asleep before the news is over.

However, I know that I need to get up earlier to get things taken care of for myself. Specifically working out and prayer time. Those are the two big things I am working on in my life and here lately I just have not had the time or energy to get either one of them in. The only answer to this problem is to wake up earlier.

Here are a few ways I am going to attempt to become the morning person I need to be!

1. Set my alarm and do not hit the snooze! hitting the snooze just delays the inevitable and in the end, I think it makes me grouchier.

2. Add this to my schedule, just like it was a doctors appointment. You wouldn’t miss a doctors appointment would you?! I don’t know about your doctor, but mine will charge you whether you show up or not! if I add exercise and prayer time to my schedule just like a doctors appointment, I am least likely to miss it. Perhaps I will charge myself a fee if I miss it?! Hmmm…there is an idea!

3. Keep the bedtime consistent. As I stated above, I am normally in bed no later than 10 and asleep shortly after. I have been tracking it on my fitbit and it says I am getting 8.5 hours of sleep at night when I get up between 6:30-7:00am. That is plenty of sleep! Of course when the wake up time is 5am soon, I will be in bed a lot earlier!

4.  Put my workout clothes all together and in the bathroom waiting for me! I am also going to put my devotional on the coffee bar so I know I can do my devotional as I sit with my coffee.  Be prepared!

5. Call on reinforcements. My friend Cyndy is up at 5am rocking it like she always does, so I have enlisted her to be my buddy. Text me and make sure I am up. I also message her often to ask for tips, etc. Having someone to hold me accountable is going to be huge!

How do you get up early in the morning to get your “me time” taken care of?
