Let the Journey Begin! #homeschool

by Lori on July 29, 2013

It is official.

I just mailed our official withdraw letters to the kids school.

They are no longer in public school and are now being taught by yours truly.

I have been asked MANY times what made me make this decision. My answer is always the same. I feel the calling to do this.

Yes there are other factors such as my daughter being attacked in the middle of a classroom, thrown to the ground and choked by another child and I was not notified about it until hours later. The fact that the principal then acted as if my daughter should be the one removed from the classroom. My son has some special needs as well. He needs just a little bit more attention than what our school could offer him.

But my main reason has stayed the same. No matter how scared and anxious I get about the decision to teach my 10 year old and 6 year old, the feeling is still there.

This is what God is calling me to do. I think in a way he has started preparing me for this long before I finally said “OK God, I got it. You want me to home school.”

He called me to lead our Kindergarteners and First Graders at church. He called me to be the promotions coordinator at VBS this year. He called my husband and myself to start a Special Needs ministry in our church. He even called me, a first time home school mom to sign up and teach at class at our Home School Co-op group.

He knows what we are capable of and he knows what he has called us to do.

So as we start this new journey in our family I can not wait to share it with you. And I do not plan to just share with you the joys and the triumphs. I plan to share the struggles and the bad days. I know we will have them. I also know we are not the only ones who will have them. I think that is another thing God has expressed to me about this. Be prepared for the bad days, they will happen. Share them. Grow from them. Continue to love unconditionally through them.
